Trip: Wednesday, August 9, 1995 - Sunday, August 13, 1995
Travelers: Richard & Nan Becker, Mel & Delores Gefroh Transportation: 1984 Honda Interstate (Mel's) 1993 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade (Richard's) Miles Traveled: 1,299 Gas Used: 32.29 Gallons MPG: 40.22 Money Spent on Gas: $38.65 The Gefrohs and Beckers left Minot Wednesday, August 9, 1995, early headed for Washburn, ND, for breakfast. It was very windy. We took 1804 outside of Washburn, ND, to Bismarck, ND, and then to Mobridge, SD. This is a very pretty ride. Then from Mobridge, SD, to Pierre, SD, we took Highway 83, which wasn't that good of a road. We stayed at the Gov. Inn . After checking in we went and eat and then toured the Capital building in Pierre, SD. It is very pretty.
Thursday, August 10, 1995, we headed down Highway 83 again to Interstate 90. Here is where we started seeing groups of motorcycles. We turned off at exit 131 and toured the Badlands National Park. This is a very scenic drive. Then we stopped in Wall, SD, and walked around the Wall Drug Store. Had ice cream here. Was hot. Arrived at Rapid City, SD, around 3 P.M. Checked in at the Garden Cottages Motel at 4030 Jackson Boulevard. (Photos above) |
Owner/operator are very nice folks and such a nice place to stay. Each couple had our own cottage. That evening we drove up to the faces and looked around that area. Friday, August 11, 1995, morning saw us up early headed for Sturgis, SD, and the bike rally. First we test drove the new Hondas. Then we drove the Harley Classic. We all decided the Honda is for us. Shopped around until 3 P.M., then headed for Deadwood, SD, to eat and gamble. While eating big rainstorm hit. Wouldn't you know it we left our helmets hooked upside down, so they had water in them. Only rained for a little while. Lucky for us!! The travelers are German, so you can see why helmets hooked upside down, ha, ha. After things dried out we headed out to tour the Black Hills. Took the Needles Road, Iron Mountain Road, and road through Custer State Park. Very pretty ride. This is one of Richard's favorite motorcycle rides. Saturday, August 12, 1995, early we packed and headed for Medora, ND. Arrived in Dickinson, ND, at Super 8 around 3 P.M. At 5 P.M., we headed for Medora, ND, to look around before the Medora Musical. The musical was performed to a full house on a full moon night. Rained during the night. We were glad we had our motorcycles covered. Sunday, August 13, 1995, we took off around 9 A.M. We stopped for lunch in Beulah, ND. Rained and misted in front of us all day. No need to put on our rain gear. We arrived in Minot, ND, around 1 P.M. We never had our rain suits out of the bag. The ladies liked that. Another great motorcycle trip with such good friends. |
