Our cruise to Hawaii found Melody and I boarding the ship Wednesday, March 5, 2014, from Los Angeles (Port of San Pedro). We departed around 4 PM. We returned to Los Angeles (Port of San Pedro) Thursday, March 20, 2014, around 7 AM. We drove from Las Vegas to LA and left our car at the port. We were at sea Mar. 5 - 9, and Mar. 14 - 18, 2014. We got off the ship at all five stops.
We had a balcony cabin C627. This was nice, as we could sit outside our cabin and enjoy the scenes. It was always interesting as they docked this huge ship and then departed. Our ship was the Star Princess/Bermudan. Mon, Mar. 10, 2014, we docked at Hilo. We stopped here from 9 AM - 6 PM. We took a shuttle and toured the town that started in a rain storm, but cleared and made for a beautiful day. Tues., Mar. 11, 2014, we stopped at Maui (Lahaina) 7 AM - 6 PM. Here we rode a bus and spent time relaxing at the beach. It was a sunny warm day. Wed., Mar. 12, 2014, we docked at Kauai (Nawiliwili) from 8AM - 5 PM. Again we rode the bus around town stopping at various points of interest. Here we noticed chickens everywhere. The bus driver inform us that the chicken is very precious here and unlawful to kill one. Beautiful waterfalls. Thurs., Mar. 13, 2014, found us at Honolulu from 7 AM - 11 PM. This stop had to be one of the highlights of the cruise. We boarded a large bus and headed to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. This area is a must see if you travel to Honolulu on the Oahu island. We spent most of the day visiting the area and driving through the cemetery. Another warm beautiful day. Wed., Mar. 19, 2014, 8 AM - 5 PM. we made a stop at Ensenada, Mexico. We enjoyed walking around the shopping areas having snacks and drinks. It was Spring break, so a lot of young folks all around having fun. We cruised with Don & Betty Lou Sippel from our Las Vegas Mountain View Presbyterian Church family. Betty's brother Doug and his wife Karen Inglis also joined us from Canada. We enjoyed most evening meals together. We dressed up for the Captains dinner one evening and had our pictures taken of which we purchased a few. Melody and I had been on cruises before, so this wasn't completely our first go around. We felt it was great cruising for 15 days. We didn't have to pack and unpack daily and rush to catch a bus. The food and entertainment was great. Melody having some Irish blood in her got to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on the ship. We both look forward to doing this cruise again. Some ship particulars: Ship overall length 950 ft., gross registered tonnage 108,977, maximum speed 23.3 knots/ 26.81 MPH and was powered by six electric diesel engines. We covered some 5,041 miles on this cruise. We averaged about 18 MPH. The photos are selected from many we took along the way. No particular order of cruise. |
