My home page was started in the late 80s and then it kinda went away, as I lost my domain page and a few other parts. I thought it would be interesting to recreate the page with some old information and new. I trust you'll find this page informative. I have tried to give you some information about myself and some cheerful moments of my 70+ years. I will continue to work and update this page. Your comments are always welcomed at [email protected]. or [email protected]. I can also be found on Facebook.
I was born in Minot, ND, (Feb. 22, 1944) and lived 18 years on a farm about seven miles Northwest of Mohall, ND, with my parents and a younger brother. (Photo above) I attended grade one at (Hamlet) a rural school West of Mohall on Highway #5. Then it was on to Mohall Public School for grade two through 12. I graduated from Mohall Public School in 1963. (You can read more about our class by clicking on this blue line Mohall HS Class 1963 (1944becker.com)) I earned four letters in football and basketball. I also was a part of the band and chorus groups. So music and sports are a big part of my life. Along with school activities working on the family farm was the next important thing in the Becker lives. We milked cows and were small grain farmers. After high school graduation I attended the Wahpeton State School of Science (North Dakota State College of Science) in Wahpeton, ND. I was enrolled in the graphic arts courses. I was offered a job in the composing room at the Minot Daily News June 1, 1964. I worked through a number of owners and held various positions. The later years I was involved in the computer department. I resigned from the MDN Oct. 8, 1999, after working there some 35 years. I left the News as the Computer Systems Supervisor. (You can read more about some of my years at the MDN by clicking on this blue line My days at the Minot Daily News (1944becker.com) I started working at Osco Drug (CVS) in Minot, ND, Nov. 8, 1999, as a manager trainee. I took a job with Osco March 12, 2000, in Grand Forks, ND, as an assistant manager after completing the 18 week training courses. I retired in March 2006, from the GF Osco store. In Sept. 2007, we moved back to Minot, ND, to be near old friends and family. We purchased a new condo in Northwest Minot. I started dating classmate Nan Read in the eighth grade and we were married June 14, 1964, in Mohall, ND, at the Zion Lutheran Church. A son Donald and daughter Michelle became part of our family. They are married and have families. They blessed us with six grandchildren. The oldest one (Tyler) became a Marine Nov. 8, 2015, as he headed off to basic training. After being deployed to Spain he is currently station in North Carolina. Boot Camp Graduation". Grandson Alex is employed at the MPLS airport after graduating from the National Aviation Academy, Tampa, Fl., in May 2018. Nan passed away May 12, 2011, after battling cancer for nearly two years. Dec. 29, 2012, I married high school classmate Melody (McCarroll) Edwards in Las Vegas, NV, at the Mountain View Presbyterian Church. It was a small wedding with family and a few close friends attending. Now I have two lovely step-daughters and families. Melody and I now have fourteen grandchildren. Aug. 2015, I sold my condo in Minot to my niece (Chriss Klassy) and became a full time Las Vegas resident.
I was raised in the Mohall Nazarene Church. Now called New Horizons Church of the Nazarene. I currently am a member of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Las Vegas, NV. My parents were strong church members. The church has been a big part of my life. I've served on a number of church boards. Over the years I have served on a few community boards and enjoyed meeting new people. I also held a number of union offices over my MDN years. We belonged to the International Typographical Union (ITU) Local 376 for many years. I enjoy almost all sporting events, so I can be found in front of the TV watching a basketball, football or baseball game in between naps. Having two children very active in sports it's part of my life. I've been riding motorcycles most of my life, so I enjoy riding my 2004 white 1800 Honda Gold Wing. Sold it 11-11-2018. I've attended the motorcycle rally in Sturgis, SD, many times. Touring the Black Hills in SD is one of my favorite rides. I also enjoy working on this home page. I started volunteering May 2019 with the Sun City Summerlin Security Patrol driving a car around our community. This club has over 200 members working 24/7. The club has five cars patrolling our community and each member works four hours per week. One dispatcher and a watch commander work with the drivers on each shift. The community has some 75 miles to patrol. (Click the "1900's or 2000's Motorcycle Trips" tabs (under MORE) above for stories of some of my motorcycle trips and memories.) |

Golf Cart Takes Place of Honda Gold Wing
It’s been a good ride. Some 50 years of motorcycle riding came to an end Nov. 11, 2018. The Honda got replaced by a golf cart in the garage. It seemed like the right time to move on from the great motorcycle adventure. I didn’t make it to all the states on a Yamaha and two Gold Wings, but I made it through many and parts of Canada. Some of those nights in a tent in the rain I’ll never forget or when the air mattress went flat during the night. And on the road in the rain and snow. My rides through Yellowstone National Park and the Black Hills in South Dakota will always standout in my mind. The Badlands in North Dakota are a great ride also. Attending the 50th Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD, will always be remembered and the many other times there. I can truly say it was a safe journey. Thanks to my best riding buddy Ernie Lenertz for all those safe miles and good times together over the years. Ernie never got us lost and that was before the GPS and cells. All the friends I’ve meet over the years in Minot and along the way I will always cherish. My grand kids will miss those rides with grandpa, but the golf cart will have to do. My Large Motorcycles
The 1986 Yamaha Venture Royale bike top left was the first large touring bike I owned. The 1993 Honda Gold Wing Aspencade in the center was the second large bike and the 2004 Honda Gold Wing was the last large bike I owned. I have some great memories of the days and miles I spent on those bikes with some great friends. I had a number of smaller bikes before the 1986 Yamaha.
